The Community Management of Protected Areas Conservation (COMPACT) was an exclusive, two-pronged initiative that addressed environmental concerns and met the needs of local communities simultaneously. COMPACT offered financial and technical assistance to community-based initiatives that served to improve livelihoods while addressing the threats, which jeopardize ecological integrity in protected areas.

The project emphasized World Heritage Sites and globally significant coral reefs. It was implemented under the general framework of the Global Environmental Facility/Small Grants Programme (GEF/SGP) and is primarily funded by the United Nations Foundation (UNF). CETRAD hosted COMPACT Project and provided administrative and logistics support.
