SUDAC CLOCs on Multi-Stakeholder Knowledge Management Platform
This project is funded by the SUDAC Clusters of Cooperation in the Global South (CLOCs) and is implemented by a consortium of research scientists from Centre for Development and Environment (CDE)

This project is funded by the SUDAC Clusters of Cooperation in the Global South (CLOCs) and is implemented by a consortium of research scientists from Centre for Development and Environment (CDE), Switzerland; Centre for Training and Integrated Research in ASAL Development (CETRAD), Kenya; and the Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), Ethiopia as the lead executing agencies, in association with partners from Kenya (Jomo Kenyatta University of Agricultures and Technology, University of Nairobi); Ethiopia (Jimma University, Addis Ababa University, Jigjiga University) and Switzerland (Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Swiss Peace Foundation (swisspeace), Td-net). The project focuses on advancing and complementing research approaches in the three forms of knowledge that are required by necessity in sustainability transformations: system knowledge, target knowledge and transformation knowledge. The initial thematic foci will be on four realms and their interlinkages where CLOC and COFER partners (COFER Academy 2030; COFER One Health; COFER WASH; COFER Education for Development) have long-standing experience and expertise:

  • Land and water management and governance,
  • Management of resource use conflicts
  • Food security and nutrition.
  • Health issues and one health approach.
  • Health issues and one health approach.

The project has three main activities namely

  • Establish a vibrant knowledge exchange platform for Science-Policy-Society interfaces;
  • Foster partnerships through a mobility Programme
  • Training and teaching events related to Sustainable Development.

Contextually, the CLOC will approach sustainability transformations in the transnational context that crosses from Kenya into Ethiopia and is characterized by semi-arid and arid conditions, predominantly pastoralist and agro-pastoralist livelihoods, strong external claims, and multiple conflicts over scarce resources. Through these activities, the project will have impact on 9 SDG’s: 1 (No Poverty), 2 (Zero Hunger), 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 13 (Climate Action), 15 (Life on Land), 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). CETRAD co-leads in implementing activities (1) and (3), but will also support implementation of activity (2).
